π How Far in Advance Should You Book Your Wedding Venue?
By Little Tennessee Event Farm | Chesapeake, Ohio πΏ
You said YES and now the most exciting chapter of your life begins! π₯β¨ One of the very first questions most newly engaged couples ask is: "How soon do we actually need to book our venue?"
It's a great question, and the honest answer is: sooner than you think! π Your venue is the foundation of your entire wedding day. It sets the date, determines your guest count, and shapes everything else from your caterer π½οΈ to your photographer πΈ to your florist π. Everything else falls beautifully into place once you have your venue locked in.
So let's break down exactly how far in advance you should be thinking about it! π
β° The General Rule of Thumb: 12β18 Months Out
For most couples, booking a wedding venue 12 to 18 months before your wedding date is the sweet spot. π― This gives you enough time to:
π Secure your preferred date before someone else does
ποΈ Plan every detail without feeling rushed
π Book other vendors (who also fill up fast!) in a logical order
π Enjoy your engagement without constant stress
If your ideal wedding falls on a popular date think Saturday evenings in May, June, September, or October ππΈ you'll want to be on the earlier end of that window, or even beyond it!
π Why Popular Venues Book Up So Fast
Here's something that surprises a lot of couples: the most sought-after venues are often booked 1.5 to 2 years in advance. π² This is especially true for farm and outdoor venues, which have a limited number of weekends available during peak season.
At Little Tennessee Event Farm πΏ, we've been hosting weddings since 2014 and our calendar fills up quickly, especially for Saturday dates in spring and fall. We absolutely love that, because it means we get to be a part of some truly incredible love stories. π But it also means that if you have your heart set on a specific date, waiting too long can mean losing it to another couple. π
The earlier you tour and book, the more breathing room you'll have throughout the entire planning process. π
π What If You're Planning a Shorter Timeline?
Life doesn't always follow a 12-month plan and that's completely okay! π If you're working with a shorter engagement, here's what to keep in mind:
6β12 months out π:
This is still very workable, especially if you have flexibility with your date. Weekday weddings or dates in the off-season (January, February, early March βοΈ) often have more availability. Don't be afraid to ask a venue what's open you might be surprised! π
Less than 6 months β‘:
It's a tighter window, but not impossible! Cancellations happen, and some venues may have last-minute openings. This is also where an all-inclusive venue can really shine β¨ when you're working against the clock, having your catering π½οΈ, coordination π, and photography πΈ all handled under one roof saves an enormous amount of time.
π Micro-Wedding? You Still Need to Move Quickly!
Even if you're planning an intimate elopement or micro-wedding with 25 guests or fewer π€, don't assume availability is a given. Smaller events are incredibly popular right now, and venues that offer micro-wedding packages often have just as much demand for those dates as they do for full weddings!
If a cozy, intimate celebration is your vision π―οΈβ¨, reach out early. We'd love to help you plan something beautifully simple and completely stress-free. π
β Signs It's Time to Start Venue Shopping (Right Now!)
Ask yourself these questions π:
π Do you have a dream date? The more specific you are, the faster you need to move.
π¨βπ©βπ§βπ¦ Is your guest list large? Bigger weddings need bigger spaces and those fill up fast.
π Is it a holiday weekend? Memorial Day, Labor Day, and other long weekends are incredibly popular and go quickly.
πΈπ Is it peak season in your area? In the Tri-State area (Huntington, Ashland, and beyond), late spring and early fall are the most sought-after times to get married.
If any of these apply to you, the time to start touring is NOW not next month! πββοΈπ¨
